Health benefits of eating Seafood

Seafood like fatty fish (salmon, tuna, trout, etc. and shellfish (crab, mussels, oysters, etc. are very good for human health as these are very good source of omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. In USA there is moderate evidence that seafood is good for health and It is also mentioned in dietary guideline of USA department of health.

According to guide adult should eat 250 gm or more seafood in week. One should eat variety of seafood as these are great source of omega-3 fatty acids and other nutrients.

Benefits of eating seafood

  • DHA and other omega-3 fatty acids play very important role in the brain and eye functioning. These are very useful in the prevention and treatment of brain and eye related problems.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids like EPA and DHA are very good to get relief from rheumatoid arthritis. If some one takes Omega-3 fatty acid supplement or eat seafood then he/she can get relief from morning join stiffness, swelling and pain.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids are very good in the prevention of heart diseases. If you want to keep heart problems away then start eating seafood atleast 250 gm per week.
  • Nutrition of seafood is very good for fetus growth, pregnant and breastfeeding women should eat 250-500 gm variety of seafood weekly. But should avoid fish containing high amount of  mercury like tilefish, shark, swordfish, and king mackerel.
