Shatawari or Asparagus racemosus has numerous health benefits. Its roots have reproductive Tonic, galactagogue,  antidiarrheatic, antidysenteric, antioxidant, antidiabetic, diuretic and laxative properties. In ayurveda Shatavari is known as Rasayana that increases the fertility, longevity, cures weakness and prevents aging.

Dried root powder of Asparagus racemosus is helpful in increasing breast milk in nursing mothers. It also increases the fertility. It is helpful in regulating hormonal secretion in woman. Shatavari root powder is used by men to cure nocturnal emission and increasing fertility.

The word Shatavari consists of two words Shat (means hundred) and var (means husbands). So Shatavari means one with hundred husbands. This name is given to this herb because of its medicinal properties.
Since Shatavari is a natural diuretic it is also used to cure urinary problems such as urinary blockage. The juice extract of its roots is used to cure dyspepsia.

Here are few remedies that can be done at home to treat various health problems

  • Physical weakness, burning sensation in hand and feet

    Dry roots of Shatavar and grind to make powder. Mix this powder with misri and take twice a day.

  • Insomnia

    Dry roots of Shatavar and grind to make powder. Take 10 gm of powder and boil with milk, cook for 10-20 mins. Mix with desi ghee and take to cure insomnia and weakness.

  • Night blindness:

    Take tender leaves and branhes of Shatavari. Cook like vegetable and eat.

  • Hoarseness of voice

    Shatavari root powder mixed with honey cures hoarseness of voice.

  • Dry Cough

    Make decoction of Shartavari powder. Drink this decoction with 1 gm pippali powder thrice a day. This gives relief in dry cough.

  • Dysentery, bleeding piles

    Take fresh shatavar and grind to make paste. TAke after mixing with misri for a few days.

  • Enhancing breast milk, galactogogue

    Mix one spoon of shatavar powder with milk and take twice a day. Take for a few days.

  • Urinary problems, Kidney stone

    Mix shatavar root powder with gokhuru seed powder. Take 2 tbsp of it and cook in two glass of water till it reduces to half glass. Filter and drink twice a day.

  • Nocturnal emission or wet dreams

    Mix 250 gm Shatavari root powder with 250 gms misri. TAke 10 gm of it with a glass of milk twice a day.

  • Detoxification

    Mix shatavari root powder with milk and drink. This helps to remove toxins from the body.
