Dadimadi Ghrita is an Ayurvedic medicated ghee. The chief ingredient in Dadimadi ghrita is dadim. Dadim is Sanskrit name of Anar or pomegranate. It is very well known for its hemoglobin improving properties. Anar is also good for the heart and digestive system. Dadimadi ghrita is mainly indicated in the management of Pandu (Iron Deficiency Anemia).
Dadimadi Ghrita is also given to treat garbhini pandu (anemia in pregnancy). A study was done on Total 35 women suffering from anemia in pregnancy. They were given Dadimadi ghrita with dosage of 10 ml, at morning empty stomach with a cup of warm water for 30 days. The study concluded that Dadimadi ghrita has good effect on garbhini-pandu (anemia in pregnancy). It also illustrated good effect on Agni (digestive power) and nourishment of pregnant woman without any side effects to foetus and pregnant woman.
Ayurvedic ghrita are specially used to treat indigestion, pitta-vikar, sprue, piles, epilepsy, migraine, headache, pain in forehead, diseases of eyes, and various diseases of the uterus.
Ingredients of Dadimadi Ghrita
Dadimadi Ghrita is a medicated preparation made with the ingredients in the Formulation composition given below with Ghrita as the basic ingredient.
- Dadima Punica granatum Dr. Sd. 192 g
- Dhanya (Dhanyaka) Coriandrum sativam Fr. 96 g
- Citraka Plumbago zeylanica Rt. 48 g
- Shringavera (Shunthi) Zingiber officinale Rz. 48 g
- Pippali Piper nigrum Fr. 24 g
- Ghrita (Goghrita गो-घृत) Clarified butter from cow’s milk 960 g
- Jala पानी Water 3.072 l
Method of Preparation
Take all ingredients of pharmacopoeial quality.
Wash, clean, dry the ingredients numbered 2 to 5 of the formulation composition, powder separately and pass through sieve number 85 (Kalka Dravyas) .
Transfer the Kalka Dravyas to the wet grinder and grind with a sufficient quantity of water to prepare homogeneous blend (Kalka).
Clean Dadima seeds and crush to prepare a paste. Take Ghrita घी in a stainless steel vessel and heat mildly to remove moisture if any. Add increments of Kalka and Dadima paste. Stir thoroughly while adding water. Heat for 3 h with constant stirring maintaining the temperature between 500 and 900 during the first hour of heating. Stop heating and allow to stand overnight.
Start the heating next day and observe the boiling mixture for subsidence of froth and constantly check the Kalka for formation of Varti (Madhyama Paka Lakshana). Expose the Varti to flame and confirm the absence of crackling sound indicating absence of moisture.
Stop heating when the Kalka forms a Varti and the froth subsides. Filter while hot (about 800) through a muslin cloth and allow to cool.
Pack it in a tightly closed glass containers to protect from light and moisture.
A green-colored, soft, low melting medicated fat, unctuous to touch with pleasant sweetish odour and ghee like taste.
Store in a cool place in a tightly closed container, protect from light and moisture.
