Homeopathic Remedy Anacardium Orientale (Marking Nut) is indicated in case the person is full of strange notions and ideas.

The mind appears to be feeble, seems as if in a dream; everything is strange and slow to comprehend. The patient is irritable, disturbed by everything, and cursing. He cannot settle between doing this and that, he hesitates and often does nothing. He cannot decide, especially in an action of good or evil. He hears voices commanding him to do this or that and see it to be between a good and evil will. The Anacardium patient is found mostly among the neurasthenics, such have a type of nervous dyspepsia, relieved by food; impaired memory, depression, and irritability, diminution of senses (smell, sight, hearing). There is a Sudden loss of memory, everything seems to be in a dream. The patient is greatly troubled about his forgetfulness, confused, unfit for business.

It is for syphilitic patients, exam fearing students, weakening of senses, aversion to work lacks self-confidence, irresistible desire to swear and curse, the sensation of a plugin various parts – eyes, rectum, bladder, etc., empty feeling in stomach; eating temporarily relieves all discomfort, Hallucinations, profound melancholy and hypochondriasis, with a tendency to use violent language, Absence of all moral restraint, etc.

It is a tropical evergreen tree that produces the cashew seed and the cashew apple.

Its English name derives from the Portuguese name for the fruit of the cashew tree cajú (Portuguese which itself is derived from the Tupian word acajú, literally meaning “nut that produces itself.

In traditional Maya medicine, the leaves or bark of cashew trees can be made into a tea to treat diarrhea.

Description of plant

It is an evergreen tree about 7m in height. It has rough and ash-colored bark and has numerous spreading branches. The fruit is borne on a pear-shaped receptacle and it ripens in January and February. The nut is heart-shaped, black, glossy, and somewhat reddish tinge. The nut contains a corrosive resinous juice in cells. At first, the juice is light in color but becomes blackish-brown on drying. The juice is not soluble in water and only soluble in 90% of alcohol.

Native to Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Indian subcontinent, and found growing in dry, mountainous forest areas.

Preparation of remedy

The ripe, dried fruit is macerated in alcohol for at least five days, before being filtered and then repeatedly dilute and succussed.

Anacardium Orientale Uses

It is used as Bhallatak and Kaju in the Ayurvedic system of medicine and in Unani.

The nuts from this tree have been used by Hindus for all kinds of skin complaints. The acrid juice was used to burn off warts and to clean leg ulcers. It is known as marking nut, as Hindus mixed it with chalk to make an ink for marking line.

Arabians used the juice for mental illness, loss of memory, for paralysis, and spasms.

The patient is controlled by negative thoughts which compels him to do violence and injustice. He thinks that he has a dual personality, as of two wills acting in opposition. It cures a strange temper which involves symptoms like-he laughs serious matters and is serious over laughable things. It cures irresistible desire curses and swears. It cures symptoms in which he has fixed ideas. He feels as if nothing is real. He thinks he is in double. One moment he sees a thing and another moment he does not understand it. It is a very good remedy for Autism, where the child busy in the self.

It is given when a patient has a loss of appetite and fever with a skin problem. At times he feels violent hunger, at others no appetite. It is given when a patient has the heaviness of the tongue and sensation as if swollen. His tongue is white and rough.

It is given when physical symptoms include a feeling of constricted pain, as if bands are wrapped tightly around the body, or as if the gut or anus is plugged.

It is given when a patient’s toothache is worse by open air.

It is given when a patient has spells of sleeplessness lasting for several nights. It is very useful when the patient could not sleep well because of itching. He has dreams of fire, dead bodies, and a tomb.

It is a very good remedy when a patient has a headache from noise, from the strong smell, from mental exertion. The patient feels a tearing headache due to hard work. Pain is seen in the forehead and back part of the head. Pain is seen after eating. It is worse from physical exertion, from coughing, from cold, from motion. He feels better: after taking food and applying pressure over an eye. Headache is often seen with pain in the abdomen, with fullness and distension. It cures when the headache is present with dimness of vision, black spots before the eyes.

It is a very good remedy for an inferiority complex, depression, manic depression, or schizophrenia.

It cures when the patient feels pressure in the eyes with dim vision. Objects appear too far. It seems as if a light appears to be surrounded by a halo in the evening. Symptoms are worse in the evening and he feels better by warm application.

It cures pressing pain in the ears as from a plug. It also cures the hardness of hearing. It is given for pain in-ear with tearing and deafness. The patient feels pain in the ear when biting the teeth together. The patient feels worse in the evening, from cold. He feels better after eating.
