Ingredients of Amlapittantak Lauha

The formulation of Amlapittantak Lauha (Bhaishjya Ratanavali):

  • Shuddha Parad 1 Part
  • Shuddha Gandhak 1 Part
  • Mandur Bhasma 1 part
  • Kanta lauha Bhasma 1 Part
  • Abhraka Bhasma 1 Part
  • Amlaki (Q. S.)

Kajjali (black sulphide of mercury)

Kajjali is compound of Mercury (Parada) and Sulphur (Gandhaka) and extensively used in the treatment of wide variety of ailments and conditions. Chemically it is black sulphide of mercury.

For preparing Kajjali, Parada and Gandhak separately undergo Shodhana-vidhi whereby they are purified, detoxified and potentized. Mercury and Sulphur thus processed are taken in equal weight and triturated till the shiny globules of Parada are no longer visible and homogenous mixture looks like Kajal. This preparation is called Kajjali. It is a prime ingredient of the majority of Rasaushadhies.

Kajjali cures many diseases by pacifying the tridoshas. It is used as Vrishya (an aphrodisiac), Sahapana (taking together with medicine), and Anupana (a vehicle taken after medicine). Kajjali enhances the properties of the other drugs mixed with it.

Mandura Bhasma

Mandur bhasma is prepared by purifying and calcinating iron rust. Mandura is especially useful in anemia, the liver and spleen disorders.

It is used in diseases like anemia, edema, etc. and also used as immunomodulator (Rasayana).

Kanta Lauha Bhasma

Kanta Lauha Bhasma is prepared from iron ore containing magnetite, a ferric oxide (Fe3O4) mineral.

Iron improves the quality .of blood. It stimulates the functional activity of all the organs of the body and is therefore a valuable general tonic. Lauha Bhasma is a powerful alterative, astringent, tonic and restorative.

Abhrak Bhasma (Mica)

Abhrak Bhasma, is preparation of Mica. It consist iron as a major element and calcium, potassium and silicon in low concentrations. It gives strength to the body and helps in the treatment of diseases.

Amla(Indian gooseberry)

Amla (Phyllanthus emblia/Emblica officinalis) tones the body, gives strength and virility and boosts immunity to prevent diseases. It has all taste except Lavana/Salty with dominant Kashaya/Astringent taste.
