Abhra garbha pottali is a Rasa (Parad) containing or mercurial formulation of Rasashastra of Ayurveda. Parad is mercury which is used only after proper purification which is done by Shodhana, Mardana (grinding), Swedana (vaporising), Prakshalana (performing frequent ablutions), Galana (straining fluids), etc. The processing detoxifies mercury and brings about the physical and chemical changes in the drug, thus enhance their therapeutic efficiency. Purified Parad is combined with purified Gandhak/sulfur in equal amount to form Kajjali.

Literal meaning of Pottali is a compact roundish collection of scattered materials in place. In Rasa Shastra, Pottali Kalpana is effective mercurial preparation with high potency and compact size.
