Triphala is very old ayurvedic mixture of three fruits i. e. Terminalia chebula, Terminalia bellerica & Emblica officinalis. Gingivitis can induced by dental plaque, is most common disease of mouth. Plaque, a colourless film of bacteria that forms on the teeth. Plaque mixes with sugar and starch in the diet to form acid and other by-products in the mouth, irritating the gum and causing them to become red, tender and swollen. If these are not taken care then these may progress to periodontitis.
For treating plaque Chlorhexidine mouthwash is is recommended by dentists. Triphala decoction as a mouthwash has same effects on bacteria and also offer several other health benefits, 100% organic and very cheap if compared to other mouthwash.
One can find Triphala very easily from some Indian Herbal Stores or online stores in either powder form or dried fruit form. This can be made at home very easily by adding and making powder of three fruits.
How to prepare triphala mouthwash?
- Take 40-50 gm triphala powder and boil it in 1 ltr water till it reduced to 250 ml.
- Let it cool down and filter with strainer and keep this decoction in clean sterilized bottle.
Use 20~50 ml decoction as mouthwash, three times a day.
This decoction can be also used as cleaner for wounds, nose etc.
