Recipe: Lauki Tangy Curry

Lauki(Bottle Gourd) is very common vegetable in India. You will find this vegetable in almost every season and every where in India. Lauki is very healthy and full of medicinal properties. There are many different recipes of lauki like for main course, side dishes and sweet dishes.

Here I am writing very simple recipe for making chatpati lauki curry


– Lauki 500 gm

– Tomato puree 1/4 cup or 1/2 cup tomato paste

– Jeera 1/2 tsp

– Hing 1 pinch

Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp

– Red chili powder 1/4  tsp

– Sugar 1 tsp

– Salt to taste

– Lemon juice 1 spoon

– Oil 1-2 spoon

– Green coriander leave for garnishing


– Peel lauki and wash with water

– Cut lauki in small cubes(Remove seed part)

– Heat cooking oil in pan

– Add hind in oil and add jeera to it

– When jeera get cooked then add tomato puree or tomato paste in pan

– Add chili, turmeric, salt and sugar to it and mix well

– Cook it on low flame for 3-4 minutes

– Now put lauki into pan and mix well, cook for 3-4 minutes by steering it

– Now add some water 100 ml to it and cooked by putting lid on pan on low flame

– When lauki get soft then remove pan from stove and add lemon juice to it mix well and serve after garnishing with dhaniya patta.
