Banana Coconut Milk Curry

banana-coconut-milk-curryIn India specially in south raw banana and coconut is major part of kitchen vegetables and culinary. Raw banana and coconut milk curry is very common part of main course and really it is very delicious. Here i am writing recipe of banana coconut milk curry.

Ingredients for curry

  • Raw green banana 4 ~5
  • 1 cup fresh coconut milk or make milk using coconut milk powder
  • Curry leaves 10~15
  • Onion 2 medium size
  • Garlic cloves 5~6
  • Ginger 1/2 inch
  • Chilli powder(less spicy) 1 table spoon
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 table spoon
  • Coriander powder 1 table spoon
  • Cumin powder 1/2 spoon
  • Black cardamom 2
  • Cinnamon 1 inch
  • Black pepper 5~6 corn
  • Cloves 4~5
  • Bay leaves 2~3
  • Tamarind pulp 1 table spoon or as per taste
  • Cooking oil as per need
  • Salt to taste


  • Wash banana, cut in 1/2 inch thick pieces and remove skin. Put banana cubes in water by adding some salt in water other wise banana will get dark brown colour due to presence of iron.
  • Make paste of  onion, garlic, ginger
  • Make paste of spices chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder by adding some water.
  • Crush black cardamom, black pepper, Cinnamon and clove
  • Heat oil in pan and deep fry banana cubes
  • Put bay leaves, Crush black cardamom, black pepper, Cinnamon and clove into oil and stir for 1 minutes on slow flame so that spice does not get burn.
  • Now put paste of onion, ginger, garlic and ginger paste and cook till it become light brown.
  • Now add spice paste, salt and cook for 3~4 minutes and keep stirring in-between and you can see oil starts separating.
  • Now Add fried banana to it in mix it well so banana pieces get covered by spice paste and cook on slow flame for 2~3 minutes by putting lid on pan.
  • Now add tamarind pulp and coconut milk and mix well, you can adjust curry thickness by adding some water.
  • Finally add curry leaves and cook for another 4~5 minutes by putting lid on pan.
  • Curry is read to serve with rice and chapati.
