Aloo ka chokha or Aloo bharta (Potato)

Aloo(Potato) ka chokha  or aloo bharta  is delicious side dish made in north India. It is very easy to made and also all ingredients are always available at home. Aloo choka is made from boiled potatoes so it is quite healthy  also.

Potatoes are very low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. It also contain vitamin c, actually  180 gm of boiled potatoes  contain 10 mg of vitamic C that is one eighth of adult requirement.

The various ingredient for aloo chokha are

1.5 medium size potatoes

2.1 large onion

3.5-6 garlic cloves

4.3 green chilies

5.¼ cup finely chopped Coriander leaves

6.Salt to taste

7.Mustered oil

8.Amchoor  powder

9.1 tsp dhania- jeera roasted (cumin and coriander) powder (optional)

1.Boil potatoes, and mash them

2.Finely chop onion, green chilies, garlic cloves and mix this with mashed potatoes

3.Add salt, amchur  powder ,dhania-jeera powder, oil

4.Mix them properly

5.Now add finely chopped coriander leaves and serve with chapati or Daal chawal

Some useful tips

.While boiling potatoes make sure that they are not over boiled because that will make them gummy.

.Always choose potatoes same in size for even cooking.

.Potato boiling in pressure  cooker: For fast boiling you can use pressure cooker. For this put potatoes in cooker and add as much water that they are half submerged. Now put the lid and keep the flame at maximum. Once the cooker gives I whistle, reduce the flame to minimum and let it cook for another 3 min. after that turn off the burner and let the cooker release the pressure itself. Also do not leave potatoes in water for too long because that can make them watery.

Also when you are making aloo bhurta or aloo chokha with dal chawal, peel the potatoes and put them in rice and by the time rice will ready the potatoes will also.

.Potato boiling in microwave: You can also boil potatoes  in microwave. For that wash the potatoes, prick them with fork  and put in transparent polythene. Make sure to prick the polythene  to allow the steam that will be generated.

Now place this plastic bag or polythene in microwave and microwave it for 3 min. after  3 min take out and check whether they are boiled. If not, microwave it for some more time.
