Agnitundi vati (Ras) is an Ayurvedic herbo-mineral preparation in tablet form. It is used for treating common gastric problems such as indigestion, poor appetite, tastelessness, gas, abdominal pain etc. It stimulates the flow of digestive juices. It improves bowel movements and gives relief in constipation.

This medicine contains Kuchla or Nux-vomica seeds. Nux-vornica is also known as Vishtinduka and Poison nut due to its poisonous properties. It is a powerful poison in large doses, producing tetanic convulsions and even death. In Ayurveda, Kuchla is included in Upvisha Varg (Vish/poisonous tree). The seeds of Kuchala are used in Ayurveda only after proper shodhan or purification. The detoxified are used in treatment of arthritis, gout, muscle pain, nerve pain etc. in low recommended dosage only.

As Kuchla is main ingredient of this medicine, it is highly recommended to take this medicine only under direct medical supervision. The patient should be monitored regularly for the effect of medicine.

Ingredients of Agnitundi vati

Shuddh Parad (Purified Mercury ), Shuddh Vatsanabh ( Purified Aconitum ferox ), Shuddh Gandhak, Ajmoda, Hareethaki, Vibheetaka, Amalaki, Sarjikakshar, Yavakshar, Chitrak Mool, Saindhav Lavan, Shweta Jeerak, Suvarchala Lavan (Sodium sulphate mixed with sodium chloride), Vidanga, Samudra Lavan (Sea salt), Shuddh Tankan ( Purified Sodium biborate ), Shuddhkuchla ( Purified Strychnos nux-vomica)

Method of preparation

Shudh Parad 12 grams and Shudh Gandhak 12 grams are blended together to form. Ajmoda 12 grams, Haritaki 12 grams, Amalaki Phal 12 grams, Vibhitaki 12 grams, Sajji-Kshaar 12 grams, Yav-Kshaar 12 grams, Chitrak 12 grams, Saindhav Lavan 12 grams, Safed Jeerak 12 grams, Saurvachal Lavan 12 grams, Samudra Lavan (Sea salt) 12 grams, Shuddh Tankan 12 grams, Vidang 12 grams, are finely powdered and added to the Kajjali. Shudh Kuchala in equal proportion to the entire mixture is added and the mixture is given Bhavana with Jambeer Swaras (fresh lime juice) for 3 days. This formulation is called Agnitundi Ras. Agnitundi Ras is dried and rolled into tablets each measuring 125 mg.

Dosage of Agnitundi vati

½ - 1 (62.5mg to 125mg) tablet to be taken in the morning and evening with honey, Nimbu Swarasa or lukewarm water.


Agnitundi vati must not be taken in pregnancy and by children.

It must not be used continuously for many days.

Do not use in High blood pressure.

To be taken under direct medical supervision.
